Services

A full instructional design shop for technical training

From a brand-new course to the next release update, I handle the analysis, design, writing, and review with your SMEs.

Core service

Course updates for new releases

I compare your courseware with the new release, decide what changes and how it should be taught, and deliver SME-ready updates to student guides, instructor slides, and labs.

New technical courses

ILT and vILT courses built with your SMEs, from objectives and structure to student guides, instructor decks, practice, and knowledge checks.

Change-impact analysis and audits

A traceable review of what a release changes in your courses, with every finding tied to its source. AI speeds the comparison; I verify every finding.

Slide redesign for teaching

Gray, text-heavy slides rebuilt into clear visuals that instructors can teach from and students can follow.

Full-cycle course development

Every phase, from my own work

  1. 1

    Analysis

Company-wide needs assessment for 25,000+ employees at Crossmark.

  2. 2

    Design

Structure and objectives for three new Check Point courses.

  3. 3

    Development

Guides, slides, labs, and certification exam questions written to blueprint.

  4. 4

    Implementation

SME reviews and delivery with international teams; a first LMS rollout.

  5. 5

    Evaluation

Level 3 evaluation at Global Knowledge; scores rose from 7.8 to 9.5.

Slide redesign

From text wall to teachable

The same content, rebuilt so students see the process instead of reading about it. Drag across the slide to compare.

After: a six-stage pipeline showing capture, decode, stream, app layer, detect, and output, with detection highlighted and one key takeaway. Before: a gray slide with six long bullet points about Suricata packet processing. BeforeAfter

Structure

Six bullets became a six-stage sequence, so the order is visible at a glance.

Emphasis

The detection stage stands out because that is where students' rules run.

One takeaway

A closing line tells students what to remember and gives instructors a talking point.

Case study

See a release update from start to finish

A revised instructor slide from the Suricata 8.0 update, with a What changed box for instructors.

Updating a Suricata IDS/IPS course from 7.0 to 8.0

Suricata is not a company per se, but a widely used, free, open-source engine for network intrusion detection and prevention. How I'd bring a six-module instructor-led course current: the release documentation, the change analysis, my instructional decisions, the revised slides, and the SME review plan.

About

Eighteen years of making technical content teachable

I work on contract with Check Point Software Technologies, where I've built three new instructor-led and virtual instructor-led courses and updated five-plus more for new product versions, including Maestro, Multi-Domain Security Management, CloudGuard, and VSX.

Before that, I spent twelve years at Nortel Networks and Global Knowledge building certification-track telecom and networking courseware, writing exam questions to blueprint, and keeping courses current through constant hardware and software releases.

I work best in established training programs where documentation and SMEs are available, and I'm comfortable owning a course end to end with minimal oversight.
